Beaver Leaders

Covering the youngest group within 1st Lindfield, our Beaver leaders provide a balanced and exciting programme of activities each week for our expanding Beaver Colonies!   Our leaders undergo training through the Scouts Association, are first-aid trained and DBS-checked.  Find out more about them below…

Chris Hammans (Leader, Thursdays - 'Chil', pronounced 'cheel'): Chris works full time as a production manager and has four children, the eldest two having completed Beavers, Cubs and Scouts, while the younger two have just moved up into Cubs.  For seven years he was active on Lindfield Primary PTA before deciding to take a well-deserved break.  Within two weeks, however, Chris had become a regular helper in Scouts and a plea from the then Beaver Scout Leader for assistance in 2008 to avoid closure of the Beaver group saw him volunteering again.  He has been a Leader with us ever since!

Vaughn Scott (Cub Leader), Friday: Vaughn successfully completed his Leaping Wolf badge as a cub with the 1st Krantzkloof Mafeking Pack whilst growing up in South Africa.   He was temporarily lost to the scouting movement for nearly 30 years.   Vaughn was lured back into the scouting family in 2013 after providing parent helper support at a Beaver meeting. After a couple of years with Beavers he moved up to Cub Leadder with his eldest son and stayed as a Cub Leader when he moved up to Scouts.  In 2019 has moved back to be a Beaver Leader to see his younger son through his scouting experience.  "I had forgotten how much I enjoyed being a cub.   I realised it's not fair to restrict the fun to the youngsters and volunteered as a member of the leadership team.   It's great working with the Beavers and witnessing them develop through their participation during the weekly activities."

Barbara L'Angellier (Assistant Leader, Thursdays - 'Jakala'): Barbara is currently in the process of changing from a hectic career in IT to working full time with children.  "I grew up in an active family and was a Brownie, Guide and Venture Scout.  It has been great fun getting involved in the Scouting world again and I am looking forward to completing my leader training and all the fun that volunteering with the Beavers offers!"
